Summer Time!

Summer, I can’t wait to get out of school so summer can start already. When summer comes around I can’t wait to go Up North. My family and all my cousins on my mom side go Up North every year the week after the Fourth of July and we stay for two weeks. We stay in a small city called Saugatuck; it’s right on Lake Michigan. It takes us about four hour to get there, and when we get there we have a blast.

The house we stay in is on a private beach so we don’t have to worry about the beach being crowded when we go down there. We bring jet skies; blow up kayaks, and inner tubes to use in the water. My favorite thing about the water is that the waves are huge. The waves are so big they can tip you over if you are on one of the kayaks. We laugh every time someone tips over. When were just sitting on the beach we play catch with the football, catch with a frisbie, build sand castles, and fly kites.

I love going into the little town where we are staying. All the shops are so cool; the one store that I loved the most was the surf store, that’s where they would sell Skim Boards. I bought an American Flag Skim Board and let me tell you it’s harder than it looks. It took me a long time to get the hang of it, but once I got the hang of it was so much fun.

The best part of staying in this house is when you wake up in the morning you can hear the waves crashing into the shore and the smell of fresh air. Then once you come down stairs you see everyone sitting on the couch watching TV.

We do the same thing every day, go down to the beach and relax and have a good time. The only time we go back up to the house is when we want to eat lunch and when it’s dinner time. After we finish eating dinner and the sun is about to set, we all go down to the beach to watch the beautiful sun set. Once the sun sets my dad builds a fire and we all bond together. We roast marshmallows and play games. Some of the games we play are Ipod karaoke and movie charades. So when every summer comes around I can’t wait to go Up North and have a great time with my family.

The Swine Flu attacks

Right now here in America and other countries around the world are facing an illness that has spend threw out many nations. This illness is called the Swine Flu (H1N1). The Swine Flu can start off as a mild illness but very quickly it can turn into a critical illness if you are not treaded right away. “Swine flu” refers to any flu virus endemic in pigs, but the damage behind this year's international outbreak is a mutation which allows animal to human, and human to human.

Our neighbor, Canada, had 168 Swine Flu patients who were required hospitalization. Most of those patients were than sent to the ICU less than 48 hours after. Eventual 80% of the patients that were sent to the ICU needed to be on ventilators. With in a moth after, about 14.3% have died. Many of these extreme cases occurred in relatively healthy, young adults. The very old or very young are usually most affected by seasonal flu. Not saying that the old and the very young should not be treated with the Swine Flu vaccine, it’s just that it mostly has targeted the young adults.

If the Swine Flu turns out to be as bad as it was in the flu pandemic of 1968. In that time frame 35% of Americans got sick. If that happens know, then 14 states would have ran out of hospital beds. Another dozen would have to fill 75% of their beds with nothing but flu victims. Here in America we have come up with a vaccine that can prevent you from getting the Swine Flu, but in some other countries they do not have the vaccine we have, so more of their people are dieing. So far, 77 million doses of seasonal flu vaccine have been distributed.

Children all over the country are receiving the first dose of Swine Flu vaccine. You can receive the vaccine by a nasal spray or just a regular shot. So far in the U.S. 76 children have died because they were not treated. There are many ways you can help keep your child safe from the swine flu or preventing the spread of germs that could lead to swine flu. Teach your child good hygiene and to have them cough or sneeze into their elbow. If your child is sick with anything, take them out of school until they are 100% better to prevent other children from getting sick. If you see that your child has a fever, cough, swore throat, body aches, headaches, and chills take them directly to the hospital just in cause if it is the swine flu.

It's a Winter Wonderland

Winter, it’s when everything around you looks like a winter wonderland. The snow on the ground sparkles from the suns raise shining upon on it. The trees are covered in icicles that’s makes the trees look even beautiful then they really are.

Winter is my favorite season because of how the land looks so beautiful. When you think of winter you think of Christmas. Christmas is my favorite holiday not just because of the presents, but because of how families come together to celebrate this wonderful holiday. When it’s around Christmas time families go out and pick up a Christmas tree and decorated it. The day after Thanksgiving I and my family spend a whole day decorating our house for the Christmas season. I love it when you’re driving down your neighborhood and all the light on the houses are glowing brighter then sun. It makes you fell so peaceful.

What’s even better, is Christmas Day. When you walk down stairs and you see your tree glowing with all sorts of shapes and sizes of presents sitting under there. Since I'm the youngest in our family I pass out the presents to everyone. For the first presents we always open up are the ones that me and my brother and sister got for each other. When we are all done opening our presents our parents open the ones they have. When we are finally done opening all the presents my dad makes a huge breakfast. He usually makes pancakes, French toast, eggs, bacon, sausage, and biscuits. When I am done eating I am full for the rest of the day, until dinner. Christmas Day we celebrate it with my dad’s side and on Christmas Eve we celebrate it with my mom’s side.

Another reason why winter is my favorite season is because it’s the time for basketball season. Last year I played for my school St. Michaels. We were CYO champions; our record was 24-0.This year I am trying out for Stevenson. I am hoping to make the JV team. I have been playing with them this whole summer. Basketball is one of my favorite sports. The position I play is point guard.

When winter comes around I can’t wait to go snowboarding. Snowboarding is what I do in free time. I go every year with my friend Shelby to Boyne Mountain. Her family rents a cabin right on the snow hill. When we want to go snowboarding we just go outside and snowboard down the mountain to the chair lift and it takes us to the top of another mountain. We do this all day. Know you can see why I can’t wait for WINTER to come.

My first day of high school.

It’s a Tuesday afternoon at about 3:00P.M. My mom just picked me up from my first day of high school. It was an exciting day for both of us. The first thing she asks me when I got in the car was “How was your first day?” and I said “Alright.” Of course she says “tell me about it from the very beginning.”

I’m fast asleep in my comfortable bed when all of a sudden I wake up to 95.5 radio station. I’m wide an awake now when the thought comes to me that it’s my first day of high school. I give a big sigh and fall back onto my pillow. When I finally get enough energy to get out of bed, I head to my closet to pick out my outfit because on the first day of school you have to look good. After I got dressed, did my hair and make-up it was about time to go. I grabbed a granola bar and headed for the car. Before going to school we picked up my friend from her house so I would not have to walk in the school by myself.

Were at the front of the school and I get out of the car and make my way to the doorway of the school. I took a deep breath as I walked threw the doors as my eyes open up wide and I say “O My GOD!” I sounded like Janis from the T.V show Friends. After my pause at the door I went to find “A” hall where my locker is in. I found it right away and thank god it opened on my first try. Once it opened I new it was going to be a good first day. I took everything with me on so I could find my classes right away and have to worry about going back to my locker before each class. The first bell rings and I’m off to my fist class.

When I got to my biology class everyone was standing outside the door. I think they were all an afraid to go in. we finally went in after the teacher came and got us. My first class went well and before I new it the bell rang for second hour. So I gathered all my stuff up and head for my next class. The hallways were crowed so badly. I was like you trying to drive a car threw downtown Chicago. You’re moving but it feels like your not going anywhere. I eventually made my way to “C” and went to “D” for my next class. I made it on time and I saw a couple of faces I new. After a class time of fifty minutes it was time for third hour. I made it there ok because I just had to go a hall over. Two of my best friends are in this class and it’s Global Ed., so I was excited to see what it’s about. Right after my fist Global Ed. class I go to my next one which is English. After half of my fourth hour we go to lunch.

Lunch time was interesting; we could barely find a seat for all my friends so we could all sit together. When we finished eating we headed back to our fourth hour for the next twenty-five min. After that it was, fifth hour, which was geometry. By now I’m exhausted, the teacher went threw how the year was going to be and how it shouldn’t be that hard if you really try. By the time she was done talking the bell rang. Than I was off to my last class for the day, personal fitness. I think that was the most boring class all day because all she did was read from a piece of paper and went over the rules. The day finally came to an end and I survived. So I made my way back to my locker to gather all my stuff I needed to bring home and than I walked to the front entrance where my mom picked me up. I said goodbye to all my friends as I got into the car and that’s when she asked me how my day was. I was glad to say “I survived my first day of high school.”
