The 1994 Rwandan Genocide Conference

In the conflict of the 1994 Rwanda Genocide Conference everybody was blaming the U.N, the MRND, and the U.S.A. some of the things they were blaming the U.N. is that they did nothing to stop the Genocide. The MRND was being blamed for the whole Genocide. The U.S.A was being blamed for the same thing the U.N was being blamed for, that they didn’t do anything to stop this violent insistent from getting way out of hand.

Rwanda grabbed the world's attention in 1994, due to reports emerging of mass murders, hundreds of thousands of people being killed for no reason. Civil war had broken out as the two tribal sections of Rwandan society, the now infamous Hutu government forces and Tutsis rebels fought each other for control of the country. The Hutus made up about 88% of the population at that time, vastly outnumbering the Tutsis, who made up 11%. The opposing armies were being inhuman and brutal, neither side showing mercy towards the civilians of the opposing ethnic group. Nobody was spared weapons. Whole villages and towns were either wiped out or forced to flee into towns. In less than five weeks an estimated 980' 000 people died. For what I feel about all this, is that this Genocide is mostly the FAR and the MRND fault. The FAR took part in the massacres of Tutsis and moderate Hutus. The MRND organized the violence.

I was the U.N. and it seemed that everybody was blaming the U.N. for not doing anything about this. Before the Rwandan Genocide happened, the U.N. had been demanded 30' 000 UN troops for Somalia from America. Once that ended we had pretty much ran out of supplies to even help out in Rwanda. We tried to help out over their, but the U.S.A wouldn't send over supplies and tanks that we asked for. So once we herd they weren’t going to give us back up or the supplies that were need to help out we decided to pull out troops out of their for their own protection. We had already lost once 10 soldiers and we didn’t want to put these soldiers back in another war that Rwanda needs to fight for their own country. This is their problem and they need to be the ones to figure out how to solve it.

The American Scholar

Emerson’s argument in “The American Scholar” about American society still holds true today.

Man has one job in life, but he is capable of having many jobs. Like when Emerson says “Man is not a farmer, or a professor, or an engineer, but he is all. Man is priest, and scholar, and statesman, and producer, and soldier.” Soldiers in Afghanistan right now are not just soldiers they are teachers, engineers, farmers, salesmen, politician, and much more. From man doing more than they are originally doing they will become a complete man.

Men now in society don’t think on their own, they rely on past information from man before. Emerson says “In the degenerate state, when the victim of society, he tends to become a mere thinker, or still worse, the parrot of other men’s thinking.” They don’t rely on their own thinking because now they have technology that can do that for them. They get information from TV, internet, books, and newspapers/ magazines. Man needs to become more self- reliance.

Halloween

Halloween is a holiday that everybody loves. It doesn’t matter how old you are, you can still dress up in costume. The night of Halloween you see children running around neighborhoods collecting candy and saying the famous line “Trick or Treat”. Children are dressed up in costumes that are scary, cute, funny, or just their favorite supper hero, but there is more to Halloween then the night of Halloween.

Before the night of Halloween there are much more fun things to do. This is the time to go to haunted houses and be scared out of your mind. The one haunted house I go to every year is the Haunted Winery in Farmington. Even though I go to it every year I am still scared out of my mind. There are so many you can go to so I recommend next Halloween you should go to a haunted house. If you go, make sure you bring a bunch of friends because it will be more fun and it will be good to have someone to walk with when you’re in there.

Also at Halloween time you can watch scary movies. Like, Halloween with Michael Myers (1, 2, 3, 4, and 5), Friday the 13th, Final Destination, Saw, and many others. Sit in front of the TV with some friends and watch those movies all day long. If you get scared watching just one or more, turn on some funny Halloween movies like, It’s the Great Pumpkin Charles Brown.

On Halloween you get tons of candy, but there are some that you don’t like and others you just love. Whenever I got back from Trick or Treating me and my friends would dump out our candy and split it up into two piles, the candy we like and the candy we dislike. The candy that I don’t like I give it to my dad. My favorite candy to get on Halloween is Butterfingers. Those are my dad’s favorite too, and he always tries to sneak one from my pile of candy but I always catch him. Nobody gives those out anymore but they will always be my favorite candy. At least once a year there is always somebody who gives out the weirdest stuff. Like one year I got floss, and another year I got Halloween pencils. I think Halloween is about the candy and I will never give stuff out like that when I’m older.
