Global Ed English has improved my writing skills by so much from the time I wrote my first day Memoir to now. When I first wrote my memoir on the first day of high school, I just wrote down what went on that day. What I didn’t know was that an essay like that shouldn’t just be what happened in every class that day, but what is one interesting event that went on that first day. Also when we would read weekly articles and have to write a short essay on how we felt about it, it really helped me concentrated on what I wanted to say and get out my point. I never knew that a paper had to have a thesis, supports that would support your thesis, and a conclusion that would sum up the whole paper and tell where you stand on something.
We did a lot on Rwanda and the genocide that happened over there. I never knew how genocide could happen, but I learned that the genocide that happened was caused by many groups of people. Like the MRND who set up a radio broadcast that told all the Hutus to kill the Tutsi. I didn’t just learn who started it but who could have stopped it. Like the UN, they could have stopped it but once 10 of their men died they pulled themselves out. When we were going over Rwanda we had a debate and that really taught me that you can learn from other peoples point of view and what each organization did during the genocide. Also with “The Man in the Well”, you learned from other peoples opinions, but you would never know the right one.
I really liked the blogs we did in this class. The topics are what made it interesting. The one that I really liked was my “Winter Wonderland” because it was one of my best blog’s and it thought me that you can have a really good paper when you know what you’re talking about.
Over all I have learned a lot this year more than I can write but these are the key ones that really helped me become a better writer. This is just one semester and I’m looking forward to the next one. By the end of the year I am hoping to be an even better writing then I am now.

Where Would I Want to Live During Colonization
South Africa would be the best place to live during colonization.
As a native in South Africa they were in orders by the Dutch. The Dutch would make them work for food and other things they would need to survive. Yes they were slaves, but what they had to do back than is no different than what we do now. When you get older and no longer rely on your parent’s money for food and clothing. You have to find a job to earn that money to get those things. That’s what the natives had to do in South Africa back than. They might not have gotten money but they would get food for their labor.
The worst place to be a native during colonization is in Rwanda. Rwanda had many problems back than that would lead them up to genocide. Who would want to be a native when genocide was going on and people all around you are being killed? Not knowing if you are going to be alive the next day is something I do not want to experience.

My 15th Birthday
Why can’t Christmas break last forever? My Christmas Break was good, but now it’s time to get back to school. Even though Christmas Break is over I still have all the good memories that happened.
When Christmas time comes around it's my favorite time of the year. When you hear Christmas songs playing wherever you go and everyone is excited for the holiday cheer. Another reason why I love Christmas is because my birthday is five days before Christmas day and this year it was a pretty good birthday. It was the 19th of December and I was just relaxing at home with my family. We were watching the movie “Hangover” when all of a sudden I heard the door bell ring. My mom tells me to go answer the door with a smirk on her face and right then I knew something was going on. So I answered the door and standing at the door was my friend Liv. I still had no idea what was going on. I asked what was going on and they just laughed at me. A couple minutes later came walking in all my old friends from St. Mikes Allie, Morgan, Shelby, Kiley, Becca, Brenna, and Shannon. I was so surprise that I had no idea what to do. Whenever we all get together we always have a good time.
My mom brought down a bunch of food and pop for us. We all stared to catch-up with each other and talking about our experiences so far in high school. We laughed for hours and than me, Allie, Brenna, and Shelby went up to my room and played basketball on our knees. We did this every time they would come over my house.
My mom than called us to the kitchen for presents and cake. My mom handed me a present from my whole family, I was hoping it was an ITouch. When I opened it up it was I digital camera, it not an ITouch but it’s still a good present. The next present I opened was from Allie and Becca; they got me at really cute shirt. Everyone else got me gift cards and money. After opening present we had cake and the cake was from DQ. Which is the best place to get a cake; it was an ice cream cake so it had six different sections. One was snickers, another was M&M, the other was Butterfinger, and Heath, and Oreo, and the last one was Brownie. It was delious and after we ate our cake we went back down stairs and had the best time ever.

The 1994 Rwandan Genocide Conference
In the conflict of the 1994 Rwanda Genocide Conference everybody was blaming the U.N, the MRND, and the U.S.A. some of the things they were blaming the U.N. is that they did nothing to stop the Genocide. The MRND was being blamed for the whole Genocide. The U.S.A was being blamed for the same thing the U.N was being blamed for, that they didn’t do anything to stop this violent insistent from getting way out of hand.
Rwanda grabbed the world's attention in 1994, due to reports emerging of mass murders, hundreds of thousands of people being killed for no reason. Civil war had broken out as the two tribal sections of Rwandan society, the now infamous Hutu government forces and Tutsis rebels fought each other for control of the country. The Hutus made up about 88% of the population at that time, vastly outnumbering the Tutsis, who made up 11%. The opposing armies were being inhuman and brutal, neither side showing mercy towards the civilians of the opposing ethnic group. Nobody was spared weapons. Whole villages and towns were either wiped out or forced to flee into towns. In less than five weeks an estimated 980' 000 people died. For what I feel about all this, is that this Genocide is mostly the FAR and the MRND fault. The FAR took part in the massacres of Tutsis and moderate Hutus. The MRND organized the violence.
I was the U.N. and it seemed that everybody was blaming the U.N. for not doing anything about this. Before the Rwandan Genocide happened, the U.N. had been demanded 30' 000 UN troops for Somalia from America. Once that ended we had pretty much ran out of supplies to even help out in Rwanda. We tried to help out over their, but the U.S.A wouldn't send over supplies and tanks that we asked for. So once we herd they weren’t going to give us back up or the supplies that were need to help out we decided to pull out troops out of their for their own protection. We had already lost once 10 soldiers and we didn’t want to put these soldiers back in another war that Rwanda needs to fight for their own country. This is their problem and they need to be the ones to figure out how to solve it.

The American Scholar
Emerson’s argument in “The American Scholar” about American society still holds true today.
Man has one job in life, but he is capable of having many jobs. Like when Emerson says “Man is not a farmer, or a professor, or an engineer, but he is all. Man is priest, and scholar, and statesman, and producer, and soldier.” Soldiers in Afghanistan right now are not just soldiers they are teachers, engineers, farmers, salesmen, politician, and much more. From man doing more than they are originally doing they will become a complete man.
Men now in society don’t think on their own, they rely on past information from man before. Emerson says “In the degenerate state, when the victim of society, he tends to become a mere thinker, or still worse, the parrot of other men’s thinking.” They don’t rely on their own thinking because now they have technology that can do that for them. They get information from TV, internet, books, and newspapers/ magazines. Man needs to become more self- reliance.

Halloween

Halloween is a holiday that everybody loves. It doesn’t matter how old you are, you can still dress up in costume. The night of Halloween you see children running around neighborhoods collecting candy and saying the famous line “Trick or Treat”. Children are dressed up in costumes that are scary, cute, funny, or just their favorite supper hero, but there is more to Halloween then the night of Halloween.
Before the night of Halloween there are much more fun things to do. This is the time to go to haunted houses and be scared out of your mind. The one haunted house I go to every year is the Haunted Winery in Farmington. Even though I go to it every year I am still scared out of my mind. There are so many you can go to so I recommend next Halloween you should go to a haunted house. If you go, make sure you bring a bunch of friends because it will be more fun and it will be good to have someone to walk with when you’re in there.
Also at Halloween time you can watch scary movies. Like, Halloween with Michael Myers (1, 2, 3, 4, and 5), Friday the 13th, Final Destination, Saw, and many others. Sit in front of the TV with some friends and watch those movies all day long. If you get scared watching just one or more, turn on some funny Halloween movies like, It’s the Great Pumpkin Charles Brown.
On Halloween you get tons of candy, but there are some that you don’t like and others you just love. Whenever I got back from Trick or Treating me and my friends would dump out our candy and split it up into two piles, the candy we like and the candy we dislike. The candy that I don’t like I give it to my dad. My favorite candy to get on Halloween is Butterfingers. Those are my dad’s favorite too, and he always tries to sneak one from my pile of candy but I always catch him. Nobody gives those out anymore but they will always be my favorite candy. At least once a year there is always somebody who gives out the weirdest stuff. Like one year I got floss, and another year I got Halloween pencils. I think Halloween is about the candy and I will never give stuff out like that when I’m older.

Summer Time!

Summer, I can’t wait to get out of school so summer can start already. When summer comes around I can’t wait to go Up North. My family and all my cousins on my mom side go Up North every year the week after the Fourth of July and we stay for two weeks. We stay in a small city called Saugatuck; it’s right on Lake Michigan. It takes us about four hour to get there, and when we get there we have a blast.
The house we stay in is on a private beach so we don’t have to worry about the beach being crowded when we go down there. We bring jet skies; blow up kayaks, and inner tubes to use in the water. My favorite thing about the water is that the waves are huge. The waves are so big they can tip you over if you are on one of the kayaks. We laugh every time someone tips over. When were just sitting on the beach we play catch with the football, catch with a frisbie, build sand castles, and fly kites.
I love going into the little town where we are staying. All the shops are so cool; the one store that I loved the most was the surf store, that’s where they would sell Skim Boards. I bought an American Flag Skim Board and let me tell you it’s harder than it looks. It took me a long time to get the hang of it, but once I got the hang of it was so much fun.
The best part of staying in this house is when you wake up in the morning you can hear the waves crashing into the shore and the smell of fresh air. Then once you come down stairs you see everyone sitting on the couch watching TV.
We do the same thing every day, go down to the beach and relax and have a good time. The only time we go back up to the house is when we want to eat lunch and when it’s dinner time. After we finish eating dinner and the sun is about to set, we all go down to the beach to watch the beautiful sun set. Once the sun sets my dad builds a fire and we all bond together. We roast marshmallows and play games. Some of the games we play are Ipod karaoke and movie charades. So when every summer comes around I can’t wait to go Up North and have a great time with my family.
